Social Permaculture Design Courses
Deep social change and transition are happening, and we all are part of this.
The Old is dying, and the New is growing.
How do we experience this?
How do we cope?
How do we contribute in a suitable and efficient way?
How do we find our personal and community answers and solutions?
How do we implement them?
Social Permaculture Desing is a great tool in the process.

“Kilgore Trout once wrote a short story which was a dialogue between two pieces of yeast. They were discussing the possible purposes of life as they ate sugar and suffocated in their own excrement. Because of their limited intelligence, they never came close to guessing that they were making champagne.”
Kurt Vonnegut, Breakfast of Champions
What is Social Permaculture?
Social permaculture is an extension of traditional permaculture principles, which focus on creating sustainable agricultural systems that mimic natural ecosystems. Social permaculture applies these principles to social structures and communities, aiming to cultivate resilient, interconnected, and sustainable human systems.
Key aspects of social permaculture include:
- Ethics and Principles: It is rooted in the same ethical principles as ecological permaculture: care for the earth, care for people, and fair share (redistributing surplus). These ethics guide the design of social systems that are equitable, sustainable, and supportive of human well-being..
- Community Building: Social permaculture emphasizes the importance of strong, interconnected communities. It involves designing social structures that promote collaboration, mutual support, and shared responsibility. This can include creating community gardens, cooperative housing projects, and shared resources.
- Inclusivity and Empowerment: A core goal is to empower marginalized and vulnerable groups, providing them with the tools and opportunities to participate fully in society. This can involve training programs, educational workshops, and creating inclusive spaces that welcome diverse populations.
- Sustainable Practices: Just as ecological permaculture focuses on sustainable farming practices, social permaculture seeks to implement sustainable social practices. This includes creating systems that reduce waste, use resources efficiently, and build resilience against social and environmental challenges.
- Holistic Approach: Social permaculture takes a holistic view of human well-being, integrating physical, mental, and social health. It looks at how different aspects of life—such as food, housing, education, and community—interact and support each other to create a balanced and fulfilling life.
Overall, social permaculture aims to design human systems that are just as sustainable, resilient, and regenerative as natural ecosystems, ensuring long-term well-being for both individuals and communities.
